A great hanging basket isn’t just about what looks good in May—it’s about what still looks good in August.
Start with the Right Mix
The best baskets combine trailing plants (spillers) and full plants (fillers). Balance is key—too many aggressive growers can take over.
Use Quality Soil
Always use a lightweight potting mix that drains well, holds moisture, and supports root growth. Avoid heavy garden soil—it compacts and holds too much water.
Watering Is Critical
Hanging baskets dry out faster than anything else.

Feed Regularly
