Hoosier Boy Growing Guides

Take Care of Each Other

It has been a difficult week for a lot of people in central Indiana. The flooding we saw over the weekend was truly historic — rivers reached record levels in parts of the state, hundreds of people had to leave their homes, and some families lost nearly everything. It’s hard to see something like that happen so close to home.

One thing that has been encouraging is hearing stories from our customers about people stepping up — filling sandbags, helping neighbors clean up, donating supplies, and finding places for displaced families to stay. That same kind of community response has been happening all across central Indiana. There are families who will be dealing with the effects of this long after the water is gone, and our thoughts are with everyone who lost a home, property, or someone they love.

This week we’re easing back to plants: an industry story that will affect growers and garden centers heading into 2027, one of our favorite alternatives to mums for fall color, and a garden at the Indiana State Fairgrounds that a lot of people don’t know is there.

This week’s lineup:

· A distributor you’ve never heard of is shutting down — and why it matters for spring 2027
· Mums aren’t the only flower for fall — meet the aster
· A trial garden hiding in plain sight at the Indiana State Fairgrounds

Take care of each other.
