Petunia Growing Tips

Petunias are one of the best performers in Indiana, but they do have a few quirks. The biggest challenge is rain—during wet stretches, older varieties can get beat up and stop looking their best. The good news is newer genetics like Durabloom and Headliner are much more resilient and tend to bounce back quickly while also being self-cleaning, so you don't have to deadhead.

Petunias are also heavy feeders. For best results, use a balanced liquid fertilizer like Jack's Classic Petunia Feed 20-6-22 or Miracle-Gro Water Soluble Bloom Booster 15-30-15 once a week. If they start to fade, it's usually a feeding issue—not the heat.

If you want something even tougher, SuperCal Petchoas (a petunia × calibrachoa cross) are an excellent option for Indiana conditions. They handle rain better and recover faster while still giving you that full, colorful look.
